You don’t often see the whole Bangladesh nation praying and supporting England but they did for 1 match so that they hope the hosts beat Australia to keep the strong hankerings alive in the ongoing ICC Championship tournament in an attempt to seal their place in the semi-finals.
Good news for Bangladesh as England show Australia the exit door. This means that Bangladesh became the second team to qualify for the semis after England. So, England and Bangladesh will be hoping another two teams from Group B table to come into the process in the times to come.
When England were cruising towards the victory line that read, 38 required off 58 balls, rain gods stole the spotlight and played a spoilsport in the game. With showers not stopping, the match was officially called off and England won the match by 40 runs as per the DLS method.
Ben Stokes essayed a flamboyant 102* eclipsing 13 fours and 2 sixes which is his first hundred in ICC Champions Trophy. The England skipper Eoin Morgan was also looking good as he scored 87 runs comprising 8 fours and 5 sixes. Their bowling unit, Adil Rashid and Mark Wood picked 4 apiece.
So, the Group A is done and let’s wait for another two tough contestants in Group B. That’s three in three for England. Here is how Twitter reacted when England knock Australia out of the tournament:
