Giving a thumbs up with regards to acclimatising to their own conditions, the hosts England were in the game and thoroughly bossed New Zealand in all cylinders that fetched them an 87-run victory and became the first contender to sneak into the semis after cuffing two with relative ease.

Kiwis, on the contrary, entered into the tourney with a sheer force giving Aussies hiccups in a rain-marred episode. However, the pundits would have predicted the England-New Zealand a tight game but a chink in Kiwis’ armour meant that the hosts got the better of them effortlessly.

Scoring 300 which was deemed a bit stiff in that early era has been tickled by the matured cricketers in contemporary cricket. The hosts that read the conditions quite well used them to great effect that saw them essaying 310 runs which is still a challenging total. Thanks to the top-order spark from Hales-Root and middle-order horsepower from Buttler-Stokes.

The positives for England is Joe Root’s high-profile form that has been the thorn to the opposition so far and has been rooting the process all the way. New Zealand bowlers though leaked runs were able to bundle the opposition out as Adam Mile and Corey Anderson picked three apiece.

England showed the similar dominance with the ball and Liam Plunkett showcased clear-cut bowling spells with four to his bag. Kiwis’ skipper Kane Williamson continued the same form as he was the top scorer with 87 runs whereas the hosts kept the other batsmen guessing as they floundered to capitalise on the tempo.

Here is how Twitter reacted to England’s success over New Zealand:
