Twitter criticizes Virat Kohli for dropping himself down at No. 4

Indian team faces a tough opposition at home for the first time after the World Cup which was the obvious reason why Indian fans were more excited for this series. India vs Australia have always been a fierce rivalry and when two best sides take on each other, there is not much chance of experiments.

Despite facing a mighty strong opponent, Indian captain Virat Kohli is running a few experiments in the game which is why he was the center of all the criticism on social media today. One major reason behind fans lashing out at him was his own batting position in which the world’s best number 3 batsman decided to demote himself at number 4 to accommodate KL Rahul.

Australia won the Toss and invited India to bat in the first game of the series. Rohit Sharma played a loose shot to lose his wicket. Even though Kohli had already hinted about him playing at 3 in the press conference, fans still expected to see a certain Virat Kohli coming at the fall of the first wicket. It didn’t happen and in walked KL Rahul who stitched together a fine partnership with Shikhar Dhawan. When things were going well with India, Rahul produced a false shot against the run of play which triggered a batting collapse.

Virat Kohli had the scores of 16, 7, 12, 11, 3*, 4 and 9 at number 4 and yet he decided to come at 4 which didn’t go well with the fans who felt that the best batsman of the team should face as many balls as possible and Kohli shouldn’t try to fix something which ain’t broken. Kohli still has a very fine average of 56 batting at 4 but that still remains an irregular position for him.

His team selection was also criticized as people rightly felt that it’s nonsense to pick a bowler just because he can bat a little. Earlier at the toss, Kohli had picked Shardul Thakur over Navdeep Saini which raised a lot of eyebrows.
