England all rounder Moeen Ali, who has left social media a long time ago has opined that all the social media accounts should have the real name and real photograph of the users in order to tackle racism. Recently, his teammate Jofra Archer was subjected to racial comments on social media after he broke the bio-security bubble between the first and second Test against West Indies.
The mistake of Jofra led to massive criticism inside and outside social media but some of the criticism turned into distasteful racist comments which is never acceptable at any level. Jofra is very much active on social media and can often be seen tweeting or posting stuffs. Moeen is his column said he has moved away from social media quite a while ago but he has no right to tell others to do so.
He wrote he felt absolutely disgusting when he received the kind of messages Jofra received from people and it is not about being thick minded, racists should never be tolerated.
“This isn’t about being thick-skinned. No one should have to tolerate racism. And I think people need calling out here. Maybe they should make it mandatory that social media accounts have names and faces on them. We should know who is saying these things.”
Moeen also opined that Jofra has a lots of potential and with the talent he has, he would go on to become an amazing cricketer for England.
“He is only nine Tests into his England career, already has three five-wicket hauls and there is so much more to come. He is a fast learner and after 15 Tests, 20 Tests, 30 Tests he will have grown and grown into the five-day game. Trust me, he’s going to be amazing,” Moeen added.
Moeen Ali has himself played 191 International matches for England in his career and has played important role in Englan’s lower middle order along with the spin bowling department to make England such a successful ODI team. Jofra Archer, who is not an England born was drafted into England’s world cup squad just before the tournament and even though he has an excellent tournament, he has had a roller coaster of a year overall.
