We have got a massive face off in IPL today where the team of Indian captain Virat Kohli takes on the team of current Indian vice captain Rohit Sharma and we can’t wait for this cracking contest. Royal Challengers Bangalore started their season with a victory against Sunrisers Hyderabad while Mumbai Indians started their campaign with a loss against Chennai Super Kings but they soon turned the tables around with the opposite results in their next matches.
As both RCB and MI have had a very fierce rivalry over the years, we take a look at three interesting player battle to watch out for in this match before the match begins.
Virat Kohli vs Jasprit Bumrah
Virat Kohli hasn’t started the tournament as well as he would have loved to with the failures in both the games. What was worst is he got out quite cheaply in a run chase and saw his troops surrender against KXIP bowlers. He would like to make amends in this big game but his biggest threat would be Jasprit Bumrah. Both of these players are fiercely competitive and like to dominate the opponents right from the word go.
Kohli has got a good record against Bumrah. He has scored 112 runs from 72 balls he has faced of him and Bumrah has dismissed him only twice. With an average of 56 and strike rate of 156, his fans could claim him to have an edge over him and that’s one battle which makes this game exciting.
Rohit Sharma vs Yuzvendra Chahal
Rohit Sharma would have two interesting battles in this game, one with Navdeep Saini and the other with his close friend Yuzvendra Chahal. Sharma has dominated Saini as he has scored 33 from the 19 balls he has faced of him, he hasn’t had much success against Yuzvendra Chahal in IPL over the years.
What makes Rohit vs Chahal is the former’s weakness against leg spin in T20 cricket. Sharma is an excellent player of spin but he has his own issues against leg spin. Rohit has faced 31 balls of Yuzvendra Chahal and he has scored 29 runs in those 31 balls. Chahal has dismissed him only once and that dismissal came on this very ground in Dubai in 2014. So if Rohit can manage to survive the opening spell, watch out for this battle.
Hardik Pandya vs Navdeep Saini
Navdeep Saini is clearly the best fast bowler in RCB camp and he will also be their best bet to bowl at the death and that’s what makes it an exciting tussle between these two players who are the best players of their teams in their respective departments. Even though the sample size is less, Pandya has the wood over him so far as he has scored 22 runs against the 11 balls he has faced of him. However, that faceoff was at Chinnaswamy and this would be a completely different prospect.
