We have got a big game in IPL 2020 tonight and it’s between two great rivals traditionally. In form Royal Challengers Bangalore will take on a strong on paper Kolkata Knight Riders in Sharjah today and with both the teams equipped with some hard hitting and some aesthetic batsmen, we may expect a great contest at a venue like Sharjah. RCB and KKR have shared some great moments of rivalry in past and that starts with the first IPL game itself, in which Brendon McCullum scored 73 balls 158 in Bangalore. Kohli’s 100 at Eden Garden last year is the final chapter of this incomplete rivalry so far and the book is about to be opened again.
KKR has a 14-10 record in their favour when we talk about their head to head record. This season though, they have underperformed with the kind of team they have got but they always bring their best game against RCB. RCB have been hot & cold but have managed to win 4 out of 6 matches so far. We take a look at some personal battles in this article.
Virat Kohli vs Pat Cummins
Although Virat Kohli vs Sunil Narine would have been a spicier contest but the news is that Narine is not going to the stadium which means he may not be playing today’s game after being reported for suspected action. The next battle we look forward to is the battle between Virat Kohli and Pat Cummins who has dismissed him 4 times in Test cricket but not a lot in T20s. In T20 cricket, their record is not dominated in one sided as Virat has faced 34 balls and scored 38 runs against his bowling while he has been dismissed once by the right handed fast bowler. Cummins will be starting the proceedings with bowling to the pair of Finch and Padikkal but if he gets one of those early, he will have a chance to bowl at Kohli.
Andre Russell vs Chris Morris
There is still some doubts over the fitness of Andre Russell but a tweet from Kolkata Knight Riders suggests that he is going to play this match which means it’s time for RCB fans to be nervous. If his 13 balls 48 runs knock at Chinnaswamy wasn’t enough to give them some stress, Russell is being used as KKR’s main weapon at death bowling too and he has been doing that job very efficiently. Although one thing which would comfort RCB fans and management is Chris Morris having a good record against Dre Russ. Morris has got him out three in only 18 balls in IPL even though he has conceded 31 runs on those 18 balls. RCB won’t mind him picking his wicket again even if it comes at a moderate cost. Watch out for Russell vs Morris contest.
AB de Villiers vs Varun Chakravarthy
AB de Villiers is undoubtedly the best batsman in RCB camp but every time he plays KKR, the opposition seem to get the measure of him. He only has a couple of half centuries against them in 19 innings which is his lowest against any team after playing more than 10 matches. One more interesting information AB vs KKR is that since 2016, his 5 out of 6 dismissals against KKR has come against spin. This information sets us up for an interesting contest between AB and KKR rookie spinner Varun Chakravarthy who hasn’t bowled a single ball to de Villiers yet but can be used as a bait to trap the big fish tonight.
