After the conclusion of T20I and ODI series, both India and New Zealand are ready to take each other on in the much awaited 2 Test match series starting on 21st February. New Zealand, on Monday announced their squad to clash with India in both the Tests. Trent Boult has been declared fit and he will make a comeback in the series while New Zealand have decided to drop Mitchell Santner who has been struggling in the Red ball format since a long time.
Kyle Jamieson who impressed one and all in his debut ODI series has got a recall to the Test side. Lockie Ferguson’s injury had earlier paved the way for Jamieson to make his way into the Kiwi Test match squad against Australia but he didn’t get any game to play. Whether he gets to play any game or not will depend upon the conditions. He will most likely be the backup seamer of the pace attack which comprises of Boult, Southee and Wagner but an injury to either of these or green pitch will ensure Jamieson makes his Test Debut as well.
Mitchell Santner has been dropped from the Test squad and the selectors have decided to go with Ajaz Patel as the only spin option. There could be more than two reasons behind it. Santner has been very successful with the red ball and Indian batsmen are known to play spin bowling much better. Also, it could be sending a message to Indians about the pitch they are going to get served.
With Ajaz, Daryl Mitchell has got a call up to the side as well. Mitchell dismissed Prithvi Shaw, Shubman Gill and Rishabh Pant in the warm up game which got finished yesterday. Although he hasn’t played any Test after the first Test against England in the New Zealand ongoing home season but his performance in the warm up match has gone on to make his case.
Here is the New Zealand side which will take on India in the two Test match series.
