As a cricket fan, imagine waking up as early as 5 AM in winters & directly tuning the TV on. Yes, these days are coming back as India is in Australia once again to battle aggression with aggression and fire with fire. But, before those chilly golden days, we’ve got a T20 series coming up from 21st November which is going to be a cracker of the series even though this Aussie team is depleted in white ball Cricket.
India will start the tour with 3 T20Is, followed by 4 Tests and 3 ODIs at the end of the tour. Australia has always been a tough place to tour for Asian teams and particularly for India. India have never won a Test series in Australia and without underestimating Australian team, this has to be one of the best chances of beating Australia in Australia. India will certainly start as favourites in limited overs series while same can’t be said about Test series.
Talking about T20Is first, Indian squad looks too good for a depleted Aussie team and it should go India’s way if they play upto their potential however, it’s a short game and thus Australia is fully capable of coming back.
Test matches will be real fun to watch and even without Smith & Warner, Australia will start with better chances if not the absolute favourites as they’ve a very potent bowling attack comprising of Mitchell Starc, Pattrick Cummins, Josh Hazlewood and Nathan Lyon who can run through any side although it won’t be easy considering the pitches they get in Australia these days. India have been guilty of not batting well on their last 2 overseas tours but one must also say the conditions in those 2 series were not batting friendly. Batsmen must feel at comfort this time but not complacent either. It will be opposite for bowlers who have enjoyed quite a bit of success on last couple of tours but it’s gonna be hard work this time on flat Australian pitches and hence, India should start with 5 bowlers and then change their squad if the batting still struggles. Bowling has got variety with Ishant, the senior most being a hit the deck bowler, Bhuvi & Umesh being a swing bowler and Bumrah & Shami being a bit of both. India can think of starting with Jadeja as spinner rather than Ashwin as he has been doing better than Ashwin with both bat and ball. Kuldeep must be the trump card and team will take a call on him after the T20I series seeing his form.
Australian batting though, short of quality players like Smith & Warner should never be underestimated in these conditions as everyone has the potential to score runs. Khwaja is back to scoring runs, Marsh bros also got runs in the last Ashes against England while tail has been a consistent problem for Indian bowlers in overseas conditions. A lot of people are making this mistake of saying Australia a weak side which they aren’t in red ball Cricket and so it will all depend upon who makes less mistakes. If Indian batsmen can support Kohli well on this tour, India will have a good chance of creating history. This will be a real good opportunity for the youngsters like Shaw and Pant, especially for Shaw who will go to his first overseas tour. This will also be the last opportunity for Rahul and Rohit Sharma in Test Cricket.
Coming back to limited overs leg, India should be able to cross the line comfortably , at least in ODIs as T20Is can go either way. Australia have been pretty poor in ODIs even with Smith & Warner.
Hence, it all sets up for an exciting couple of months for Cricket fans as India vs Australia is new biggest rivalry for Cricket fans.
