Just accept the fact, City cannot compete with the elite teams: Pep Guardiola

Pep Guardiola admits Manchester City still needs improvement in their performance. In fact, he predicted that City may indeed not be able to compete with the ranks of Europe’s elite clubs.

After winning the domestic treble last season, City scattered in the Premier League 2019/2020. The defeat against Manchester United last weekend pushed them further behind in the League competition.

City is still ranked third in the English League standings. However, with 32 points from 16 matches, they are already 14 points behind Liverpool who continue to go fast.

City’s pace in the Premier League this season is not as smooth as last season. So far, they have fallen four times or equal to the number of defeats in the last season.

Guardiola said City might indeed not be able to compete with top teams. David Silva and his team still need to improve performance.

“We have to improve, accept it, and keep going forward. (Manchester) United have the qualities to defend and attack in a counterattack and you have to accept that,” Guardiola was quoted as saying by the BBC .

“That is the level that we face against Liverpool, Manchester United, Barcelona, Real Madrid, Juventus. They are the team we have to face and the fact is maybe now we cannot compete with them.”

“Maybe we should live it as a club to be better, accept the reality now and improve ourselves,” he said.
