In tonight’s Dream11 IPL encounter, it’s the two low profile teams which will lock horns. Although the players from both the teams have got some history among themselves so the game is expected to be a high profile and well contested one. Also, Rajasthan Royals will find it comforting to be back in Sharjah, a place they played 2 games at the start and won both of those. Delhi Capitals also have the experience of playing and winning in Sharjah so it won’t be an alien place to play cricket for them either. There is not much to differentiate between these two teams going by the head to head record which favours RR by 11-9 but current form definitely favours Delhi Capitals today.
Apart from the team battle, there will be few individual battles too and let’s take a look at those without any further delay.
Jos Buttler vs R Ashwin
Who can forget that famous Mankading Ravichandran Ashwin affected to dismiss Jos Buttler in the previous season of IPL? We may have a mouth-watering round 2 of this player battle if Jos Buttler manages to survive new ball spell up front bowled by Rabada and Nortje. Their T20 match-up is quite even with the right arm off spinner bowling 31 balls to him in which Buttler has scored 32 runs without getting out to him even once. Buttler has scored only one four in those 31 balls bowled to him by Ashwin. The stats show their match-up is pretty even with neither of them dominating each other but it’s just because what happened last year, this battle is going to be an exciting one.
Jofra Archer vs Rishabh Pant
In a ground like Sharjah, the odds will always be in favour of the batsman who happens to be Rishabh Pant here but you can never predict with class bowlers like Jofra Archer. Pant has played only a handful number of balls bowled by Archer to him but what has happened on those occasions makes this a clash to watch. Archer has bowled 12 balls to him in which he has been hit for 6 three times. The overall match-up between these two is – 12 balls, 25 runs and 0 wicket. 2 of those 3 sixes were hit last year in one over when Pant had the role to finish a chase which he had done successfully. Both these players have looked in good form this season.
Steven Smith vs Kagiso Rabada
Steve Smith and Kagiso Rabada have shared some unpleasant memories in the past which dates back to 2018 when Rabada was banned for a Test match for brushing shoulders with Smith after dismissing him in that Test match. As the format gets bigger, so does the rivalry. Talking about T20 cricket exclusively, both the players haven’t had a fair go at each other in anything but international T20 cricket. In T20Is, Smith has scored 29 runs against him in 17 balls while Rabada has managed to get his wicket once. The sample size suggests they haven’t played each other a lot to infer something and today could be one of those days when Rabada will have a fair go at the opponent captain.
