The peak plight of dealing the game was always there in such a high-voltage clash between Sunrisers Hyderabad and Kings XI Punjab of the 19th match of the Vivo IPL 2017. Sunrisers’ reliable medium pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar who is a skilled practioneer particularly in the death overs has always performed well bowling under pressure whenever he gets the opportunity.
It is cognisance of the fact that both the teams deserved to be on the front foot. At one instant, Kings XI Punjab looked like cruising through the victory when the famous Rajiv Gandhi stadium got starstruck by fiery opener Manan Vohra’s staggering 50-ball 90.
At the post-match presentation, Bhuvneshwar Kumar was there to narrate his fantastic experience and said that the shortest circuit has always produced strange results which he feels that the game is unpredictable and Bhuvi also praised Vohra for his outstanding knock.
“T20 is a format where you expect the unexpected and Manan almost took the game away from us.” added the Purple cap holder at the post-match presentation.
When asked about tackling the hectic moments, Bhuvneshwar said that trusting oneself is the best way to motivate and come out of the tough situation and he added that he is used to bowling under pressure as he had done the same for 3 years at SRH.
“Athletes always talk about believing in themselves and that’s what I did in the 19th over. I’ve overcome that pressure because I’ve done this job for SRH for last three years. I knew I had to bowl the 19th over, the match-defining over. I believed in myself. I bowled the 16th/17th over, he was in good nick,” added Bhuvi who scalped 5/19 in his 4-over spell.
In addition to pitching the balls in good lengths, slight variations in pace worked out wonders which was the ultimate mantra of success for the team feels Bhuvneshwar. “Changing pace really worked for us. If you want to win the match defending 160 you have to take initial wickets, the likes of Maxwell, Miller and Morgan.”
