Indian captain Virat Kohli has got some support from the former Pakistani captain and cricketer Inzamam Ul Haq who, in a video on his official YouTube channel adviced Kohli not to think too much about the things being said from the outside as failure is just a part and parcel of the game.
Kohli, on this whole New Zealand tour managed to score only 218 runs in the 11 Matches with 105 out of those runs coming in the T20 matches. Kohli had a horrific Test series where his scores read 2, 19, 3 and 14 in the 4 innings he played. Twice in 4 innings, he got out to the incoming balls and once while playing an expansive cover drive which made several people question his technique. Inzamam had an answer for all those people as he told them to calm down and not make it a technical issue.
How can you question someone’s technique who has 70 International 100s?
Pakistani legend has an official YouTube channel where he posts videos discussing cricket. In his latest video, he talked about the slump in Kohli’s form.
” I am shocked that people (in India) are talking about Virat Kohli’s technique. He has scored 70 centuries with the same technique. I am amazed. “
” As a player, I can tell you that every player goes through a phase when things don’t go his way despite doing everything correct. Every player knows this thing happens and even someone like Kohli had to go through it. It’s not that bowlers will come everyday to get smacked by him. It doesn’t happen with any player. “, Inzamam was quoted as saying on his YouTube channel.
Inzi then gave the example of his former teammate Mohammad Yusuf who went through the same lean patch where he failed to buy a run and people started questioning his technique which was different than other batsmen and worked only for him. According to him, Yusuf then came to him for the suggestion and he told him not to worry too much as he has scored all those runs in past with the same technique. A batsman can’t own every season, let the bowler dominate sometimes, he added.
Big players (like Kohli) are mentally strong. They don’t overthink about their lean phase and make a strong comeback. If I’ve to tell Kohli something, I’d just say that there is nothing to worry about. Kohli has got out playing a cover drive but that’s his strength. Sometimes, you get out as well playing your favourite shot. No business always yields you profit, there are few losses too but you can’t give up on it. He is mentally very strong and so I don’t think he will get affected by any chatter.
Not happy with the performance of other batsmen
” India got bowled out on 242 in the first inning ( of Christchurch Test ). Kohli is out of form but what has happened to other players? India has been a batting powerhouse yet they are 90-6 in the second inning. Kohli scored only 14 but others didn’t score either. Nobody would’ve criticized Kohli had others played well and India won. It’s just a matter of time for Kohli. He should play with free mind and not carry any baggage from the past. “
Inzamam showed his displeasure over other Indian batsmen failing to step up in the absence of Kohli which was the case with Indian batting lineup. India’s three most experienced batsmen Kohli, Pujara and Rahane had a combined average of only 19 in this series.
