World’s toughest and most exciting T20 League IPL is in the first week of May, i.e, it’s second month and there were plenty of things which took place in the month of April. First and foremost, we will look to focus on best performances and by that we mean the best team which one can think of from the month of April. This is our team of April, feel free to share yours.
The destructive opener who wasn’t the first pick of his franchise was made to wait for long before getting his first game for Punjab. Eventually, he got to play his first match of the season against mighty CSK where he tormented their attack with a brisk 50 but the best was yet to come. Against SRH, which has the best bowling unit in the IPL, Gayle scored a scintillating 100. His numbers read 252 runs from 4 games at an average of 126. and thus he’s the first choice as opener.
Chennai Super Kings’s best batsman and definitely a player which surprised one and all with his batting abilities Ambati Rayudu makes way in our team as the second opener. Rayudu currently holds the orange cap with 391 runs from 9 games at an average of 43. He scored 370 runs in the month of April at an average of 46. What has impressed cricket pundits the most about him is his flexibility to play at any position which is making CSK such a smooth and dominant batting side.
No team would ever be completed without the presence of the run machine Virat Kohli. RCB captain might have seen some tough time in his captaincy but his bat hasn’t stopped yielding runs. From the 7 matches Kohli played in April, his bat scored a total of 317 runs at an average of 63 which included a tough fighting knock of 92 against MI.
The one RCB batsman who has looked deadly in form is Mr 360° AB Devilliers. RCB could barely manage 2 wins in April and ABD was Man of the Match in both the wins. Not only, he has done the bulk of scoring but also, the runs have come at a quick rate. AB managed 280 runs from the 6 games at the strike rate of 180 which is second best in this IPL at the moment.
One of the few positives of Delhi Daredevils this season, Rishabh Pant has been in tremendous form this season. He has a rare but brilliant ability of striking the ball from the word go. Pant is currently placed at 2 in the orange cap race, just 30 runs behind Rayudu. In April, he scored 306 runs in 8 matches which includes a couple of fighting knocks against CSK and RCB.
MS Dhoni (Captain+WK)
Finally MS Dhoni seemed to have find his Midas touch. It looks like he has gone back in time where he used to smash bowlers at his will. Dhoni 2.0 has been absolutely brilliant in this IPL despite a slow start. The CSK captain had scored 281 runs in 8 games at a strike rate of 160 in the last month which is massive for a finisher. His captaincy too has been spot on.
Moving down the order and coming to the bowlers, no team would be completed without the world’s number 1 T20 bowler Rashid Khan. The 19 years old leg spinner has made a habit of winning games for his side. In April, Rashid picked up 10 wickets in 8 games at an economy of 7.3 that too despite being taken to the cleaners in two games.
Vidarbha Express, as they say has been right on track in this IPL and has been one of the very few positives for RCB this season. He has bowler with great pace and control this season which is heartening to see if you’re an Indian fan. Umesh picked up 10 wickets in 7 games at an average of 22. He currently holds the purple cap.
Our final overseas player in this team features Trent Boult. The kiwi flying Boult has been on song with the ball this season. DD pacer took 11 wickets from 8 games in the month of April bowling at different stages. His economy is on a higher side and that’s because he has bowled tough overs at death but his wicket taking ability has made him a cut above the rest.
SRH has been blessed to get some extraordinary bowlers in their side which has been the key to their success this season. Siddharth Kaul has improved and impressed everyone with his bowling skills. His variation in pace has been impeccable and has been the reason behind his 11 wickets from 8 matches. His best performance came against MI where he picked up 3 wickets and cleaned up the tail.
It won’t be wrong to call him the find of the season. MI management gave him the opportunity ahead of much known Deepak Chahar and Anukul Roy and he grabbed the opportunity from both hands in the first couple of games itself where he picked up 7 wickets. He didn’t get as many wickets later on still, his numbers are impressive which read 11 wickets from 8 games at an average of 19. The results might not have gone MI’s way but they can be proud of their decision of exploring Markande.
