IPL peaked last night when it saw 3 super overs in one day and with the standards set so high on a Sunday, a game on Monday would be having a lot of expectations on itself and players like Jos Buttler, Ben Stokes, Steve Smith, Sanju Samson, Jofra Archer, MS Dhoni and Shane Watson will have the responsibility to make it a spectacular night again. It’s the battle of two sides who had got suspended for two years in the past. Chennai Super Kings takes on Rajasthan Royals in today’s encounter and although the head to head record favors CSK by 14-8, it’s the players battle we are going to focus on in this article.
Faf du Plesis vs Jofra Archer
A contest between Faf du Plesis and Jofra Archer will be on the cards since both the players are openers for their sides. One opens the batting for CSK while the other shares the new ball for Rajasthan Royals and the batsman will get properly tested by an in form Jofra Archer on a pitch which assists pace bowling, especially with the new ball. Previously, Jofra has bowled 7 balls to him and he has got him out once after conceding 14 runs but that game was played on a flat Sharjah pitch. In the World Cup last year, Jofra had dismissed Faf inside 4 balls only. We will see how they play each other in bowling friendly conditions.
Jos Buttler vs Shardul Thakur
Although, where does Jos Buttler get to bat today still remains uncertain but even if he bats in the midddle order, he may get to face Shardul Thakur against whom he got out twice in 8 balls last year. There is no question about the class and skills of Englishmen. These things are evident from the fact that he played a scoop shot on a 156 kmph ball the other day but he has not been able to get big scores and that would be a concern for him and RR. In the past, Buttler has enjoyed some success against CSK but Shardul Thakur has been one bowler who have had the measure of him in some way. Although Buttler has scored a strike rate of 177 against him, he has dismissed Buttler two times in 18 balls overall.
MS Dhoni vs Kartik Tyagi
This is the debut season for RR young pacer Kartik Tyagi who has done exceedingly well in the games he has played so far. Just the other night, he was nailing yorkers against AB de Villiers and before that he also picked up the wicket of Virat Kohli. He has been one of the finds of the season and he must be looking forward to bowl to MS Dhoni at the death. Both these players haven’t played against each other before but with Tyagi’s skills of bowling quick and accurate yorkers, Dhoni’s power-hitting, which has already faded away will be tested tonight.
