Ford Trophy 2018-19 is approaching towards its end. The 25th match is between Central District and Wellington. Wellington has been the strongest contender for this trophy this year. They are on top of the chart with 6 wins in 8 matches. They have secured their place for semi-finals. Central Districts have won only 2 matches out of 8 and they are second last in the points table. This is a do-or-die situation for Central Districts.
Central Districts lost their last match to Auckland by 4 wickets. Choosing to bat first, Central Districts started off terribly. The lost both their openers within a span 5 overs. But Captain Tom Bruce came to control the damage and scored a half-century. It was his support that led his teammate Josh Clarkson to score a remarkable century. Despite this tremendous effort, they could manage to put only 226 runs on the scoreboard. Auckland absorbed the not-so-strong bowling attack from Districts bowlers. Ryan McCone and Dean Foxtrot were the only successful bowlers who bravely attempted to stop the opponents to achieve the target. Both of them took 3 wickets each. Due to lack of runs, their effort went in vain and Auckland won the match by 4 wickets.
Wellington continued to perform exorbitantly. Andrew Fletcher’s innings of 76 runs and Malcolm Nofal all-around performance led the team to attain victory over Canterbury by 23 runs. Winning the toss and decided to bat first, Wellington started-off decently. The first wicket partnership was of 82 runs. The middle order didn’t perform well. Michael Bracewell had to depart without even getting chance to face a ball. He was run-out by Will Williams. But Malcolm Nofal and Peter Younghusband portrayed their dependable characteristics and added 74 runs for sixth-wicket and led the team to a respectable score of 256 runs. Bowlers performed really well. Not even once they let Canterbury batsmen let overwhelm them. Hamish Bennett ( c ) blew the wickets away and sent Chad Bowes to the dressing room. He took three wickets in the match. When Stephen Murdoch was becoming a problem for Wellington, Ollie Newton came as a rescuer and sent him to the pavilion. Canterbury was all out for 233 runs, courtesy of Ben Sears and James Neesham too.

Wicketkeeper: This tournament has been pretty awful for Ma Ava Ave. He hasn’t been able to score in the last few matches. Launchie Jones has scored comparatively better. He is a better pick.
Andrew Fletcher is a must pick. He is in form and scored half-centuries and centuries in this tournament. His last 76-run innings confirms his form. Along with him, Michael Pollard is a good option. He has consistently delivered from his bat and his support to Fletcher has been appreciable. Greg Hay is a good option to pick.
Both Josh Clarkson and Tom Bruce played really well in their last match. Devon Conway ( VC ) is another
name which is always a preferred choice. He has scored multiple half-centuries in this tournament.
James Neesham is a must pick. He strengthens the lower batting order and bowls well too. He scored the much needed 29 runs and took two wickets in the last match. Malcolm Nofal is another great choice. He has scored consistently scored in the tournament and took wickets too. He scored a half-century in the last match. Dean Foxtrot can’t be ignored as he took three wickets in his last match and contributed with the bat too.
Ryan McCone and Ben Sears are must pick. Both have bowled superbly in their respective last match.
Each took 3 wickets. Hamish Bennett ( c ) and Ben Wheeler are wise options to choose.
