CD vs CTB match preview
he first match of the last packet of matches of Ford Trophy 2018 will be Central Districts vs Canterbury. Canterbury has no scope left in the tournament except treating their last match as finals and celebrate the win. Central District has won three and Canterbury won two matches out of 9 matches that both the teams had played. Central Districts must be filled with enthusiasm and confidence after seeing their performance against one of the best teams of this tournament. For Central Districts to remain in the tournament, they have to win this match and hope Northern Knights to lose their last match so that Central Districts may qualify for semi-finals.
Central Districts won their last match against Wellington by 7 runs (DLS Method). Compelled to bat first, few of the District batsmen played fantastic innings. Off to a bad start, they lost a couple of wickets when they made just 26 runs. Then came Tom Bruce who played a captain’s innings of 87. He along with Greg Hay, who made 83 runs, partnered up for 145 runs and mended the broken condition of their team. But then Bruce had to depart and Josh Clarkson also got out within a span of 2 overs. Afterward, Willem Ludick arrived at the crease and did what he was required to do. He played some fine shots and added 51 runs along with Ben Wheeler. Ludick made 46 runs and Wheeler made 27 runs in 15 balls. Together, they were able to make 279 runs which proved to be respectable total. Defending their target, initially, the match seemed to run out of their hands as Andrew Fletcher and Jakob Bhula opened their innings by making 104 runs together. But Murray and Ludick didn’t allow him to bat beyond that. It was a delightful moment for the team when Wheeler took the most crucial wicket of Bhula, who was then batting on 99. Ben Wheeler and Willem Ludick bowled superbly. Ludicks’s bowling stats were 6-0-23-1 and Wheeler’s bowling figures were 8.4-0-18-1. Felix Murray also showed very disciplined bowling. By God’s grace in the form of rain, the match was called off in 40th over and Wellington fell short by 10 runs and the central Districts won the match.
Canterbury, whose bad luck is not letting them go ahead, lost their last match to Otago. Plenty of fine innings were witnessed during this match. Wisley opted to bat first, Chad Bowes took this opportunity and scored a ton. Even when they lose their first wicket in just 15 runs, slowly and steadily Stephen Murdoch and Chad Bowes added 63 runs for their second wicket. After Murdoch got out, came the captain Cole McConchie. Chad Bowes and Captain added then added 78 runs to their team total. Cam Fletcher came at number 7 and hit the ball over the boundaries and successfully took the total to 270 runs. He remained not out at 47 in just 37 balls. Defending the target, the bowlers couldn’t compete with the winning luck of Otago. Grad Wilson scored a fabulous ton as a counter to the earlier ton. The Canterbury bowlers couldn’t break the bundle of 50-60 run partnerships at the right time which Otago batsmen cleverly made. Still, Cole McConchie bowled really well. He took the wicket of the Mitch Renwick who was emerging to be dangerous. Fraser Sheet and Blake Coburn completed their complete spell and gave 45 and 47 runs respectively. Both of them took one wicket each. But all these efforts were not enough to stop Brad Wilson to take make their team victorious one more time.
