The fifth edition of Bangladesh Premier League which happens to be the premier domestic T20 League of Bangladesh is just around the corner. The tournament will begin on 4th November in Sylhet and a total of 46 matches will be played across 7 different venues among 7 teams to complete the league on Dec, 12. The auction took place just a month ago and with some interesting signings, the season promises to be bigger and better. With just a week to go for the tournament, we bring you all the team’s preview so that you don’t have to scratch your head thinking about the abilities of different teams. Our next team is Chittagong Vikings.
The Vikings from Chittagong are the perfect examples of raw talent and dedication. Over the years, they’ve shown the world that they can do well without big names much like what Rajasthan Royals had to offer in IPL. They finished last season as number 4 after getting knocked out in eliminator but coming as underdogs yet going so far was impressive.
This year too they don’t start the season as favourites and the let off of Tamim Iqbal has hampered their chances even further. Tamim, who was their best batsman will however miss first few games of the season due to an injury. Yet they’ve got a very talented bunch of batsmen who can play themselves in under any circumstances. Soumya Sarkar shown some good form in the T20 against South Africa while Anamul Haque also looks in good shape. Al-Amin and Tanbir Hayder have been special against Ireland A although the quality of bowling attack would be very different and better this time. Going through overseas players, they don’t quite have those star, eye-catching players who would attract massive crowd but they will always be ready to stand-up for the team when needed. Misbah-ul-Haq, the captain is the biggest example of that, while wicket keeper Luke Ronchi and West Indian hard hitter Jermaine Blackwood will be there for quick runs.
Going through the ranks of All-rounders, Liam Dawson is one prominent one, he will also enjoy those conditions unlike playing T20 in England. While Yasir Arafat is one Willy customer. Sikander Raza, Jeevan Mendis and Najibullah Zadran provide good balance to the team.
Sunzamul Islam, Subhashish Roy, Taskin Ahmed and Nayeem Hasan will be their prominent faces when it comes to bowling. The first two names had very good games for Bangladesh A side while Taskin is struggling a bit in SA but is expected to do well on home pitches which he did last year too.
