With Tom Banton recently hitting 5 sixes in an over in a Big Bash match, we look at few other players who hit 5 sixes in an over but failed to achieve the feat of hitting 6 in a row.

The right handed English batsman who has been purchased by KKR ahead of the 2020 IPL made his International debut against New Zealand in November 2019 after having displayed some great performances in the domestic leagues. Currently playing for Brisbane Heat in the Big Bash League, Tom Banton slammed Arjun Nair for 5 sixes in a row as Heat posted gigantic total of 119/4. Here is the video of his incredible power hitting in that one over.

The match was cut short due to rain and Heat achieved the total in just 8 overs. Banton scored a 19 ball 56, which is second fastest in Big Bash history.

 

2. Chris Lynn

In the 2015-16 season of the Big Bash League, Chris Lynn scored a blazing 56 off 24 balls against Ben Hilfenhaus at the MCG and won the match for Brisbane Heat single handedly. Lynn hit 5 sixes in that over after missing the first one. The first one went deep into the stand over square leg. The second one went little further over mid wicket. Third six came off a full toss flicked behind square. The last two came straight and went over the boundary like a bullet.

The skipper had a dream run in that season, finishing with 378 runs at a strike rate of 173 scoring 3 fifties and one fantastic century. The Australian batsman hasn’t seen big success in his International career but has played impressive cricket for the domestic leagues and has scored a career best 19 ball 50 for Kolkata Knight Riders. He will play for the the 2019 champions ‘Mumbai Indians’ in the 2020 IPL season who have won league 4 times including the 2019 season.

3. Chris Gayle

His tall physique and power hitting is any bowler’s nightmare once he gets going. Gayle scored 5 sixes in an over for the Royal Challengers Bangalore against Pune Warriors while chasing a target of 183 in IPL 2012. RCB were 76/3 when Gayle started to unleash his wrath in the 13th over. It was Rahul Sharma at the bowling end who got hit for 5 sixes after Saurabh Tiwary took a single on the first ball and gave the strike to Gayle. RCB won that particular match on the very last ball when Saurabh Tiwari hit it for 6 when they needed 3 of the last ball.

Chris has hit 6 centuries in the IPL and played for Kings XI Punjab in the 2019 season after being an integral part of RCB team since 2011. He is also the only player to hit 100 sixes in T20 International and holds the record of 21 centuries in T20 cricket.

4. Dimitri Mascarenhas

Dimitri Mascarenas is a former England batsman who is best known for his knock in the sixth ODI of the Natwest series 2007 against India to take England to a challenging total of 316 for 6 in 50 overs. Yuvraj singh was handed over the ball by Rahul Dravid to bowl the final over and Mascarenhas was on strike. He missed the first ball but went on to hit 5 consecutive sixes in the next five deliveries after being dropped by Piyush Chawla on the second ball who made a brilliant attempt to catch it. India had the last laugh as they chased the total with Tendulkar’s 94 but Dimitri is still the known for his power hitting in that match.

5. MS Dhoni

Dhoni is regarded as one of the best wicket-keeper and finisher in the limited overs cricket and has achieved numerous milestones since his debut in 2004. During the 2013 Champions League T20, Dhoni raced to make the fastest fifty in CLT20 when he hit Thisara Pererra for 5 sixes in an over to achieve the feat in just 16 balls. He beat Kieron Pollard who had made an 18 ball fifty for Mumbai Indians in Champions League.

Dhoni finished on 63 off 19 balls and led the Chennai team to a 12 run victory on his home ground in Ranchi.
