With Indian international season being over, all the focus and buzz shifts to IPL which is mere 17 days away from It’s inception. In the meantime there is world cup qualifier going around too where the low ranked teams are competing with each other for those two vacant spots in the 2019 WC. We have already seen some spectacular performances from some brilliant cricketers. Some have been so good that they would’ve set even IPL on fire. Here are we recalling some of the players who could’ve made this tournament more exciting.
1. Rovman Powell ( West Indies)
Rovman Powell’s maiden one-day international hundred dragged the West Indies from a difficult position to beat Ireland in Harare on Saturday and reach the Super Six stage of World Cup Qualifier. After being restricted on 83-5 against Ireland, the swashbuckling Caribbean batsman set the stage on fire with his run a ball 101 which helped WI to go past Irish challenge. Powell though was picked for KKR in previous editions but did not get to play.
2. Shimron Hetmyer ( West Indies)
This left handed batsman from WI had smashed a hundred against UAE in the WC qualifiers. He captained the WI U-19 side in the WC held in 2014. Hetmyer has the capability to strike big. He ensured WI a steady start in the tournament.
3. Sikander Raza (Zimbabwe)
This player hardly needs any introduction as the Zimbabwean star all-rounder is among the best in associate cricket. Sikander Raza played a steady inning of 69 against Ireland in a low score game in WC Qualifiers. Apart from that, his bowling is always handy. Last year he had turned many games with his bowling itself, particularly in the SL series. Raza has a calm head on his shoulders.
4. Mujeeb Zadran ( Afghanistan)
The 16 years old teen from Afghanistan has already made a lot of headlines after the IPL auction where he fetched 4 crore rupees to play for KXIP. The reason behind owners going crazy for him was his success debut against Ireland. The off spinner is supposed to posses some mystery in his bowling. His performance in the WC Qualifiers has not been too illustrious though.
5. Norman Vanua ( Papua New Guinea)
Norman Vanua is a young and emerging speedster from Papua New Guinea who has impressive numbers in his short career so far. Considered as a bowling all-rounder, Vanua can bowl at a decent pace. His 4 wickets against Hong Kong helped Papua New Guinea secured 9th place in the World cup qualifiers.
6. Ehsan Khan, Hong Kong
Although Hong Kong had a tournament to forget, their experienced off spinner Ehsan Khan had a decent enough tournament with the ball. Ehsan Khan showed some good glimpses of his talent. He has picked 25 wickets in the 13 games he has played so far for Hong kong. He was the only positive in their campaign this time.
7. Paul Stirling, Ireland
The Irish All-rounder hardly needs any introduction as fans across the globe hace seen him play on numerous occasions and he has impressed one and all with his skills.
Stirling can play both as an opener and as a finisher and he can bowl as well. He adds various dimensions to the game. He scored a mammoth 156 in a practice before the WC qualifiers started.
8. Richie Berrington , Scotland
Richie Berrington from Scotland has got what it takes to be a good all round cricketer. Richie who’s quite experienced at professional level, has scored runs at a healthy average and Strike rate. On top of that, he can bowl very well as well. He has had a good World cup qualifier.
9. Rohan Mustafa, UAE
Rohan Mustafa was seen on big stage during the 2016 Asia cup where his performance was a big positive for a depleted UAE side. The 20 matches old off spinner has good numbers so far with both bat and ball and he seems to be a promising talent of UAE.
10. Brendan Taylor, Zimbabwe
Probably the only person who can be called as a legend in the list. Brendan Taylor has been one of the stalwarts of the game and he has already contributed a lot for Zimbabwe Cricket. His magnificent 100 against West Indies went in vain though but as a batsman he’s a class act as well as destructive. He had retired after 2015 WC but now he’s back playing International cricket again.
