After losing 5 matches in a row, the capital city of India Delhi Daredevils was looking down and almost out in the Indian Premier League 2017 edition but a new young captain and his young guns pulled of a commanding victory against Sun Risers Hyderabad who were on a roll couple of days ago.
The bowlers were a bit expensive for the home side as the wicket was batting friendly which is a bit different behaviour of Delhi wicket than the original two paced wicket which they get to most of their matches. At one stage 185 was looking over par by almost 20 runs but the pitch started assisting batsmen in the chase.
When asked about how he is feeling after a much needed win after a long time, DD skipper Karun Nair said, “Very happy. It was a complete team performance. Really glad to have a win here. I think the bowlers gave it all. If we had got that catch of Yuvraj, they wouldn’t have gone that far.”
“We have always spoken about how we are a young team and should play like a young team. We just wanted to go there and play positively, play with intent,” Karun added in the post-match presentation when asked about so much young talent is playing in their starting eleven and giving it all they have got.
Though the home side skipper was a bit disappointed because he got out after getting a very fast start scoring 39 in just 20 balls with a strike rate of almost 200. But he was glad that he finally got some runs under his belt which was much needed after being promoted as the leader and now he is hoping to kick off from here.
After getting the much needed momentum, Delhi has more reasons to smile as they will play two more home games. Up next is Gujarat Lions at their home ground Feroz Shah Kotla whereas a bit shaky Sun Risers will go back to their home den Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad to play against an in form Rising Pune Supergiant.
