The fifth edition of Bangladesh Premier League which happens to be the premier domestic T20 League of Bangladesh is just around the corner. The tournament will begin on 4th November in Sylhet and a total of 46 matches will be played across 7 different venues among 7 teams to complete the league on Dec, 12. The auction took place just a month ago and with some interesting signings, the season promises to be bigger and better. With just a week to go for the tournament, we bring you all the team’s preview so that you don’t have to scratch your head thinking about the abilities of different teams. Our next team is Rangpur Riders led by their icon Mashrafe Mortaza.
Rangpur Riders since it’s inception in 2013, have never been able to hold the trophies in their hand but have been a consistent and challenging team with a win percentage of 50. Last year, despite the team having many star players failed to make playoffs and finished 5th. This time, there has been lot’s of chopping and changing in order to do better in the tournament. Mashrafe Mortaza has been handled the captaincy charge with team heavily relying on the all-rounders for whom it will be challenging conditions after playing in NatWest T20 Blast in England and performing quite well there.
Adam Lyth and David Willey smashed two big hundreds in the NatWest T20 blast with Lyth finishing over 150. That shows how destructive they can be given that Willey gets good opportunities to bat. Ravi Bopara, the experienced customer, was also very decent in that tournament. For the first few games, they’ll have to make a choice between Kusal Perera and Johnson Charles to partner Lyth at top provided they choose an overseas option as Mohammad Mithun will keep wickets. Both can be destructive on their days but it will be interesting to see where they slot Mithun. Afghan all-rounder Samiullah Shenwari can be another good option while Thisara Perera will be mandatory in the squad as he gives the captain both options.
Bowling is mostly dependent on their spinners which they have in abundance.Shohag Gazi, Abdur Razzak and Elias Sunny along with all important Samuel Badree will be looking to spin the wave against batsmen. Ziaur was pretty impressive even last year. On the other hand, fast bowling is mainly dependent upon Rubel Hossain who accompanied with Willey and captain Mortaza be their main option when it comes to fast bowling. But when compared to their soon bowling strength, fast bowling department looks a little grumpy. Again , it will be depend upon the kind of surface they get on Sher e Bangla national stadium.
